Behaviors that feel out of control, are often the brains solution to something else. Together we will figure out the "functions" of your behaviours: the effects if has, or what it achieves, in a particular situation. I use different elements of intervention to best meet your needs; including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR) & Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I am a sex-positive, integrative therapist offering a space to embody, explore, and learn about sexuality and gender without judgment or shame. Working as a team, you are the expert on you. I simply help you see things already there. My approach is informed by my professional training in evidence-based sexology, psychotherapy & clinical nursing practice gained over 30 years.
My approach is trauma-informed: drawing on relevant fields, such as evolutionary science, polyvagal theory, attachment theory, and inhibitory learning theory; trauma-aware: attuned to the possible role of trauma in a wide range of clinical issues; and trauma-sensitive: alert to the risks of experiential work, especially mindfulness meditation.
I reject the sex addiction approach as it is not evidence-based. Instead, I offer a sexual health model, guided by the principles* of: consent - the right to give & take away at anytime for any reason; non-exploitation - living free from power & control of others; protection - balancing pleasure & safety; shared values - knowing yours & respecting others; honesty - as a choice; & mutual pleasure - individualised & important to communicate.

ACT is one of the third wave behavioural therapies, using acceptance techniques and mindfulness to help you develop a greater sense of awareness and inner peace. ACT supports you to learn mindfulness techniques that can help reduce stress and anxiety, often seen with problem sexual behaviours, and improve your overall wellbeing.
GSRD outside of the perceived standards of heteronormative & cisnormative society, are frequently viewed as abnormal. This can bring a felt-sense of shame and internalised negativity. I have lived & worked in GSRD | kink-communities in Toronto, London & Brighton for over 30 years. I welcome, and celebrate diversity in the therapeutic space.
