About Peter Carter
Background, Training & Approach

About Me
I have worked in the field of psychosexual and relationship therapy for over 30 years, supporting clients through some of the most personal and sensitive challenges they face. My work is grounded in a deep respect for each person's unique experience, and I bring warmth, directness, and clinical rigour to every session.
I trained as a psychosexual therapist through a rigorous postgraduate programme, awarded MSc Human Sexuality, University of London 1996. I hold full accreditation with the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) — the UK's leading professional body for sex and relationship therapy. I am a Certified Problem Sexual Behaviour Therapist — Sexual Health Alliance USA.
A Registered Nurse, I have worked in sexual health and HIV settings as a Senior Nurse, and held the role of Nurse Adviser, Department of Health (England) from 2001-2011. I bring a solid foundation in understanding how psychological, relational, and physiological factors interact. I continue to engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development to ensure my practice remains evidence-based and ethically sound.

My Therapeutic Approach
My approach is integrative — drawing on psychosexual therapy, cognitive-behavioural techniques, systemic thinking, and EMDR depending on what each client needs. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all model; instead, I tailor the work to the individual in front of me.
Sessions are collaborative and non-judgemental. I work with people of all genders, sexual orientations, and relationship structures, and I am affirming of LGBTQ+ identities and non-traditional relationship models including ethical non-monogamy.
Whether you are dealing with a specific sexual difficulty, the aftermath of trauma, or a more diffuse sense that something is not right in your intimate life, my aim is to help you understand what is happening and move towards a more fulfilling experience of yourself and your relationships.
